Cousins Camp Talent Show has become a favorite. Some of us plan and prepare (Aunt Kate and Aunt Erin) and some of us put it together on the spot.(Uncle David)
Uncle Ben and Aunt Lea spoiled everyone with grilled pizza, popcorn and cotton candy for an outdoor film. That’s a wrap on my Best of the WEST #cousinscamp highlights!

Every year we try to include at least one craft. (Possibly the only crafts that don’t get thrown out in our house because they have become keepsakes.)
@eli_tlumach3 showed up as the best golfer.
Renting out the skate rink was so worth it! The camp directors 80’s childhood back in vibrant colors!
And we ended the day with camp awards and it came easy to find something to celebrate about each kid!

Cousins camp has become a summer time staple for our family and what we hope will be a legacy of deep roots and belonging. It was my turn to be camp director this year. This highlight reel makes it look like effortless fun but make no mistake—there was also fighting, fails and forgotten details. And entirely worth it all.
Day One // Team Building Challenges // The Pond is Lava // Family Square Dance
I consider it a huge privilege that our family gets to cheer on my brother, David in the Special Olympics! We traveled to Penn State to watch him play softball and represent Bedford County. He had a big fan club and we were proud of his effort and the way he encourages all players. Thank you to all his coaches, teammates and the volunteers @specialolympicspennsylvania!
Thank you to all the teachers and mentors who saw beyond a kid who didn’t like school. Thank you for understanding he wasn’t looking for awards and high praises—just a space to use his hands to build and create. Thank you to my parents for letting him take over the barn to build both successful engines and failed contraptions. We are so thankful to see Isaiah receive his certifications from LCCTC in auto tech and his diploma from Garden Spot this week. God has given this young man so many good things.
Gabe has been deployed overseas with the PA Army National Guard for almost 6 months! To our friends and family that have sent packages, never stop asking about him and praying for him—your thoughtfulness amazes us. We are missing him big time as we plan another summer that he will be gone. He’s doing great and has a perspective for service that leads to good things. He’s never verbalized regret about his decision to enlist at 17–probably because he knows God supplies his tenacity, strength and everything he needs. He still gets to catch Victory church services online, watch his beloved Philly teams at odd hours, work out in the gym & basketball court and enroll in online college courses.
It’s rainy season where Gabe is located and supplies are harder to come by locally. Packages are still being delivered and if you want to send him one, I’m happy to share an address.
Happy Birthday, @csmeltz8 ! ❤️❤️ I have not a clue how I got his attention 25 years ago but i haven’t stopped being grateful ever since. He is a man of prayer, selflessness and an abiding faith in God. He encourages his kids every chance he gets, he’s a respected leader, jack of all trades and man can preach! We love him so much!

He went in the strength he had, and God did the rest. It’s a privilege for our family to be part of the Army. Gabe joined two years ago and began training in high school and yesterday he graduated as a soldier in the Delta Company, 3rd Battalion, 54th Infantry Regiment and reports back to his unit in PA. Iron sharpens Iron!

David was back at it on the hockey floor for @specialolympics with his Bedford team. So proud of all of them! Go for gold!
Last week we celebrated Gabe’s last season playing football on the GS basketball court. (Ok not really but…. kind of.) I’m thankful that Ben got one year on the high school team with his big brother and for everyone who has encouraged, coached and supported our kids.
Rosie is 10 weeks old and ready for her new home. She’s the last of Marley’s goldendoodles but don’t feel bad for her—she is loving the attention she is getting now that all her brothers and sisters have found homes. Reach out if you’d like to meet her!

We celebrated @g_smeltz42 and the other young men of B company 3-54 today for completing basic training with the US Army in Fort Benning, GA! He will return next summer to continue his training. Go Army!
He is on his way back home to start his senior year of high school and rejoin the coaches and his boys @gardenspot_football2023 for the season. Go Spartans!

Over the weekend we prayed with Gabe, we said our goodbyes and encouragements as he heads to Fort Benning, Georgia for basic training with the US Army. He leaves with all the support of an incredible community of friends and family who have instilled a lot of confidence, character and faith in him. Thank you for helping us raise a great kid and send him off with love!

Happy Birthday to the man we all look to when we need encouragement or when the check engine light comes on, the man who gets up with his teenagers before dawn and reads to his elementary kids at bed time, who tells them who loves them most and sees the best in his wife and gives her way to much credit. We love ya!
Today we celebrated David’s 35th birthday. I was 10 years old when my Dad traveled to Romania and brought home this tiny 4 year old brother of mine. He had much to learn and perhaps more to unlearn. We all learned right alongside of him which has been one of Gods richest gifts to me.
One of my favorite things about David is how childlike and silly he can be. I find myself returning to my youth and forgetting that I’m an adult with responsibilities.
He LOVES being an uncle, he dreams he will be a fork lift driver or the Henry Ford of flying cars (and Isaiah will be his engineer). He will talk to anyone and without trying, he creates better material than modern sitcom writers.

Happy 12th Birthday Olivia Jolie! Don’t let her quiet demeanor make you think she isn’t steeled, paying attention and ready. Her goal for this year is to “out-plank” her older brother. When given a choice for her birthday, she picked watching her brothers play basketball. Her thoughtful side has her crafting, baking, helping with younger kids at church, and so. much. patience. She’s always been my Diamond in the rough (her brothers)💎 and she’s as steady as mountain. Love you, love you girl!

We celebrated our youngest two kids today with school friends. It was a joy to have them in our home. But what was most remarkable was seeing their older siblings decorate the house, make cakes, welcome the little guests and help with all the party activities. Their Dad drove the hayride and cleaned up the house afterwards. I’m the planner but I have an incredible team! I have to say that this team has required consistency, discipline, a lot of unglamorous moments and faith in something bigger. If you had a day that cost you a lot, remember that there is a good thing coming. ❤️

We are celebrating a big, next step @g_smeltz42 took yesterday to enlist in the PA Army National Guard. He will begin drill weekends next month and do basic training in between his junior and senior year. This kids shoulders can handle a lot—this is his next mission and we are grateful that his trust is in God to give him everything he needs for it.

Many of her favorites today—baking, Adventures in Odyssey, legos, framily, snow boarding, games and her oldest brother told her he would take her out when he passes his drivers license. ❤️
We wore Sambas together, earned badges at Pioneer clubs and shopped at Mom’s Mall, won a Bobs Big Boy contest 🤣, got side-swiped, cheered on the Blonde bombers and then you toured The. World. and I sent videos from home. Your are the best planner, the optimist, 100% alllll in, nostalgic, most likely to show up in costume, friend from the kindergarten. Family is the framework for teamwork and if Gabe hasn’t learned that enough at home, he certainly has in the Garden Spot basketball program! We mostly watch Bens basketball games on our tv or iPhone sitting outside of the gym he’s competing in and we don’t get to see Isaiah’s rifle competitions at all. So you better believe nothing is taken for granted when I get to see the big guy win a game in person!

Big celebration today for my kindred spirit since 7th grade. Our years as a carefree, produce-peddling, old-navy clad, teen girl gang were short compared to the lives we’ve navigated together as adults. The key word being “together”— @anna.martin7 has been with me for it all. (Except for “intense” movies, cruises or the birth of Isaiah because she was living in Guatemala). Her reliance on God, selfless, expanding love, and creative thoughtfulness have been a constant. She deserves a month of celebration, but she probably won’t take a day. We were both invited to a mutual friends birthday party in the early 90’s where we connected as the most mature and poised attendees. 😏When @rachellemartin3446 and I met again as teens, we decided to be in it for the long haul—so she married my all star cousin years later and had three creative, bright and sweet kids. It has been spoken over me for 40 years now. Peace has invaded my life again and again. On my birthday I wish you all Shalom! The kind of peace that only God brings to chaos. That’s the beauty of peace—life doesn’t have to be perfect, orderly or full of the things you want because God enters the scene and says “Peace be with you!” Every single thing we do in life is an opportunity to bring shalom.
Then there’s our sweet Josiah—which means “God has healed.” When we named him that we had no idea he would need Gods healing 6 years ago when he was diagnosed with a rare kidney tumor. We are getting spoiled this weekend and we are full of GRaTiTUdE!!!!
On this day, @g_smeltz42 declared he would kiss his brother the day he beats him on the field.

We did it! Our last kid got on that bus and off they went with purpose for the day. We love our school district and we are so grateful that the doors are open this morning at Brecknock elementary and Garden Spot MS and HS. Sophomore, freshman, 7th, 5th, 2nd and Kindergarten!!
